3 Best Sandwiches in Montreal

I LOVE sandwiches. In fact, I would kind of consider myself a sandwich connoisseur when it comes to preparing sandwiches at home and I usually eat at least one sandwich a day recently. I have posted some sandwich recipes like the one here and although I love the sandwiches I make, going out to try sandwich shops is something I have really grown to enjoy! I didn't do this much while living in Calgary because I struggled to find sandwich shops that I liked the looks of but Montreal has so many amazing sandwich shops! I have tried a bunch of them in Montreal and I wanted to share my current 3 best sandwiches in Montreal that for me clearly stand above the rest! This list does not include shawarma / lahmajoun / manakish but even if it did I don't think any place would crack my list except maybe Al Taib Boulangerie.

Antep Kabab

I shockingly couldn't find my own Antep sandwich picture so here is a picture from their Google Reviews of the chicken sandwich!

The first two spots on this list will probably come to no surprise to anybody that follows me on TikTok because I go to these spots A LOT. The first of which is probably my favorite sandwich shop in the city and that is Antep Kabab. The sandwich here is pretty simple but I just think everything is executed to perfection. It is loaded with perfectly grilled meat over charcoal and has a pleasant yogurt sauce with a little bit of vegetables all contained within a Turkish bun which might be my favorite kind of bun that I have tried.

What should I order?

I would personally always go for the chicken sandwich and I HIGHLY recommend asking for it spicy because it is not really burn your mouth spicy but is more just like has more seasoning. I have tried the other meat sandwiches from friends and they are also great though so if you enjoy beef or lamb then give those a try as well! I also personally bring my own hot sauces because I think the sandwiches need a little more kick if you are a spice lover but to be fair I do this with all sandwiches hahah.

Now of course this is a sandwich post but since they also offer plates I would just like to point out that they are pretty good as well. I have maybe only gotten a plate once though because I think the sandwiches are a lot better and more worth it so I would highly recommend the sandwiches as opposed to the plates!

Also note that this place is CASH ONLY so make sure to bring cash. Otherwise, there is an ATM inside and I believe the ATM fee is a flat $1 so if you do forget cash it isn't too bad.

BOSSA Prêt à manger

The next spot is Bossa, specifically the location on Wellington. I moved to Verdun ~2 years ago and it was such a good decision! I originally lived in Hochelaga which is also a really amazing neighborhood but Verdun is probably my favorite neighborhood in the whole city! Part of the draw of this neighborhood is Wellington street which is a bustling shopping street that turns into a pedestrian street in the summer and has so many cool restaurants and shops (and was oddly named the "Coolest Street in the World" by TimeOut). Sadly, some of my favorite spots on Wellington have closed recently like Lido and Aka-Fuji but Bossa still stands strong and has actually opened two additional locations around the city!

Bossa is an Italian sandwich shop that serves up not only delicious sandwiches but also lots of coffee and desserts! I have been to a couple of Italian sandwich shops in Montreal but for me Bossa stands above the rest in terms of how flavorful the sandwiches are. All of the ingredients are absolutely seasoned to perfection and the roasted vegetables have the most amazing roasty flavor! They are also pretty dense which I like and the bread is really good style, being relatively soft but not getting soggy even when I bring it home (which I usually do).

What should I order?

Personally, I love customizing my sandwich at Bossa! I usually get the roasted chicken and then add some more vegetables like the roasted peppers and marinated eggplants. Afterwards I of course add my own hot sauce and this makes for a perfect really high quality Italian sandwich in my opinion. This sandwich is a little more expensive compared to the other two on this list, especially if you customize, but I absolutely think it is still worth trying if it is within your means!

Otherwise, while I usually don't opt for fried chicken in my sandwiches because I find it can be a bit heavy, the cutlet sandwiches at Bossa are also great so I recommend those as well! I have also tried the cheese-steak and it is pretty good too, in general I feel you just can't really go wrong with the sandwiches at Bossa!

Additionally, while I haven't personally tried the desserts at Bossa, my friend who loves pecan pie (and is a fellow foodie) recently tried the Bossa pecan pie and said it was the best one they have ever had! From my experience it seems that Bossa really doesn't miss! Make sure to order in advance though and order early because wait times are often quite long and they can sell out of stuff in the afternoon. I can't remember how many times I have wanted a roasted chicken sandwich and been informed they are already sold out!

Kahwa Café

Last up on this list is actually a place I just tried about a week ago and that is Kahwa Café! A lot of people recommended this place to me and I have actually almost gone in a couple of times because it is in the Plateau Mont-Royal right by the Mont-Royal metro station. One day last week I finally decided to give it a try and I am so glad that I did.

This is a North African sandwich shop and what I noticed instantly when I walked in was fresh bread that was being made in the oven and that amazing freshly baked bread aroma. There are only 6 sandwiches on the menu here but every one sounds amazing and I would love to try them all but I opted for the panko chicken when I went. The bread was phenomenal, as expected, the chicken was super juicy and the sauce was amazing! I am not sure what the Kahwa sauce is but whatever it is I want to buy a whole tub of it! The sandwich was also really loaded up with chicken which was really nice.

What should I order?

I have only tried the panko chicken from this place and I can personally highly recommend it! When I visited I was with my friend as well and my friend got the "merguez maison" sandwich which they also really enjoyed. They said they honestly liked the merguez even more than the chicken but I should mention that I think in the merguez sandwich there is much less sausage than there is chicken in the panko chicken sandwich. I cannot wait to go back to this place to try another sandwich out!

That is all for this post! I hope you guys enjoy these shops if you haven't tried them already and I want to emphasize that none of these are sponsored in any way, just my personal favorites.
